This is the Lower Columbia Basin Audubon Society Bird Alert for May 26,
1996. For any questions regarding LCBAS call Mike Lilga at 946-8966.
W.E. Johnson Park along the Yakima River near Duportail Street yielded a
BARN OWL and a BLACK-CHINNED HUMMINGBIRD for Nancy LaFramboise and Ruth
Fischer on May 20.
On the following day, May 21, Dennis Rockwell found 3 BONAPARTE'S GULLS
among the gull flock at Two Rivers Park in Finley,
and Jessie Gordon observed 3 EVENING GROSBEAKS in her Pasco yard on
Sylvester Street.
Also on May 21, I (Bob Woodley) saw 3 VAUX'S SWIFTS, 2 ORANGE-CROWNED and 1
WILSON'S WARBLERS in Groves Park in Richland and a male BLACK-CHINNED and a
female RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD in my yard.
On May 23, Nancy LaFramboise and I, birding in WE Johnson Park, found among
other things, 1 BARN OWL, about 20 CEDAR WAXWINGS, a WARBLING VIREO, a
WILSON'S WARBLER, 3 YELLOW-BREASTED CHATS, 2 LAZULI BUNTINGS, and a
(RING-NECKED) PHEASANT nest with 11 eggs.
Also on the 23rd, male BLACK-CHINNED and female RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRDS and 2
VAUX'S SWIFTS were seen in or over my yard.
For the next 2 or 3 weeks, there should be many interesting migrants
visiting the TriCities area. For example a beautiful male TOWNSEND'S
WARBLER spent most of this morning in my neighbor's pine tree. Get out into
our local parks or just into your yards and find some of these birds and
share your sightings with us. There should be more reports coming in at
this time of year.
To report your own sightings, please give your name, phone number and
sightings after the tone. Thank you and good birding.
