Hi Tweets -
Did a quick run through Samish Flats and Fir Island yesterday. The fields
are beginning to puddle up with all the rain we've had and there were
several large flocks of shorebirds in the Samish Island Road area. I didn't
have alot of time to go through them but they looked mostly like
Black-bellied Plovers and Western Sandpipers.( I'm sure there must be
something rare and wonderful amongst them.) Also had my first Rough-winged
Hawks of the season, along with two Peregrin's. Things are picking up. Fir
Island was extremely quiet - almost lulled me into missing the 35 Trumpeter
Swans on Summer Road which a local said he had heard fly in two nights
before. They were trumpeting, too, so I got a double whammy. What is there
about swans that is so exciting?
