WOS Birdbox transcription, November 4, 1996, 11am

[messages last checked 11am November 3rd]

1:15 p.m. November 3rd - John O'Connell, Camano Island, 360.387.2059,
reporting for Saturday, November 2nd at the Stanwood sewage ponds. At
approximately 3 p.m. birds of note were a single EARED GREBE and a single
female OLDSQUAW. Thank you.

6:45 p.m. November 3rd - "One rusty blackbird baked in a pie..." Hi, this
is (...?...) and today me and Steve Mlodinow, Steve Pink, and Jim Flynn
birded the Everett area. And at Spencer Island south of the crossdike on
the east side one RUSTY male BLACKBIRD was seen singing and then it flew
away to the south. Other birds seen in the area were TRUMPETER SWAN,
[NORTHERN] "YELLOW-SHAFTED" FLICKER, and a few SNIPE. And earlier in the
day there was a SHORT-EARED OWL over on Jetty Island, and the [WESTERN]
SCRUB-JAY previously noted in the BirdBox was not found. So, good luck and
good birding!

7:30 p.m. November 3rd - Hello, this is Steve Pink of Bellevue, phone
number 603.0736. Jim Flynn and I birded from Stanwood to Samish Flats this
afternoon. Highlights included a REDHEAD at Stanwood sewage pond, a
YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRD amongst a huge flock of blackbirds by dairy in
Brightshore Road in Skagit. One CATTLE EGRET was observed in the same
fields west of Edison as was previously seen a couple of weeks ago, and a
PRAIRIE FALCON was also found at the same location. That's it. Good luck
and good birding!

8:58 p.m. November 3rd - Gary Bletsch (sp?), 360.853.7203. Today there was
a flock of Black-bellied Plover in Demin (?) on the Field Road on the
Samish Flats, and with them was a DOWITCHER in winter plumage, but it had
tiger-striped tertials, so I figure this was a juvenile SHORT-BILLED just
turning into non-breeding plumage kind of late. Thanks. Bye.

10:38 a.m. November 4th - Hi. This is Charlie Kahl, I'm calling in from
the Seattle Audubon Society desk. We recently had a call this morning,
this is Monday the 4th of November, at 10 a.m., of a SNOWY OWL in north
Ballard on Dibble Ave between 73rd and 75th. The caller was not sure of
the identity of the bird, but after describing it to us it was pretty
obvious that was most likely what it was. That was on Dibble Ave between
73rd and 75th.
