This is Kas Dumroese with the northern Idaho / eastern Washington /
northeastern Oregon bird hotline.

At Mann Lake near Lewiston, ID, on October 26, Dan and Ila Svingen
report 2 TUNDRA SWAN and 6 DUNLIN. To get to Mann Lake, take US
12 west into Lewiston, cross the Clearwater Bridge and immediately
turn left toward East Lewiston. Follow Main Street to the blinking
yellow light and turn right onto Lindsay Creek Road. Stay right at the Y
and follow Lindsay Creek until it dead ends at Grelle. Turn left onto
Grelle, and just after Grelle makes a 20 mph right turn, turn left toward
the lake. Head straight about 1.3 miles to the dead end and the parking
area. ID DeLorme p. 54, A1.

Dan and Ila also report 2 CATTLE EGRET near the intersection of US 95
and Nez Perce County Road 2 (the one signed for the Lewiston Roundup
Grounds), just south of Lapwai, ID, on October 26.

I observed a single GRAY-CROWNED ROSY FINCH along Skyline Drive in
southern Benewah County, ID on October 28. The bird was along the
rock outcrops along the cutbanks just north of Sublime Point. If you
want to go looking for this, I'd suggest you go the back way. Turn
west on DeSmet Road at US 95 milepost 381. Follow it about 4 miles
and turn left (south) onto Mail Route Road. Follow Mail Route Road
about 1 mile to the entrance to Mary McCrosky State Park -- the
entrance is on the left (south) and Sublime Point is another 5 muddy
miles up the hill. I'd give you the DeLorme coordinates but the DeLorme
has all the road names wrong for this area.

BLUE JAYS. There are at least 3 now in Moscow. They are in their
annual spot in north-northeastern Moscow, north of Homestead and in
and around F Street between Orchard and Polk. They are arriving with
some regularity early mornings at a feeder at 824 Leath, home of Bill
and Joan Wykoff. There's an alley behind the house where you can stalk
them. Dale Goble also reports them coming to his feeder at 728
Homestead. These two homes are only about 2 blocks apart, the way
the Blue Jay flies.

MerryLynn Denny spied an adult AMERICAN TREE SPARROW near
Roosevelt, WA in southern Klickitat Co. on October 26. WA DeLorme p.
27, BC-7. That same day, near Lyle, WA, the Denny's report 12
LESSER GOLDFINCH at milepost 80 along WA 14. WA DeLorme p. 25,
C6.

A little closer to home, the Denny's report 4 female RED-BREASTED
MERGANSER below Ice Harbor Dam in northwestern Walla Walla
County, WA on October 27. You can reach the dam by heading east
from Pasco on US 12 and then taking WA 124 east to the dam access
road. WA DeLorme p. 40, BC-1. Southeast of Pasco, along US 12, at
the Wallula poop piles, the Denny's saw a RUSTY BLACKBIRD on
October 27. The piles are just north of the junction of US 12 and US
730. WA DeLorme p. 40, D1. A MERLIN was also in the vicinity.

As of today, November 1, the sub-adult, male, ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRD
was still in the yard at Mike and MerryLynn Denny's in College Place,
WA. The Denny's live at 323 Scenic View Drive if you'd like to take a
peak. Mike and MerryLynn also know where Long-eared and Barn Owls
can be found. Call them at (509)-529-0080.

Finally, a NORTHERN PYGMY-OWL has been coming with some
regularity to my Moscow, ID feeder for the past 3 weeks. It's not
predictable, but you're more than welcome to come stroll around our
woods looking for them. Noontime seems best. Call me at
208-883-0943.

Good birding!
