Hello, this is Portland Audubon Society's Rare Bird Report. This recording
was made Thursday November 7. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls
at 233-3976.

A TROPICAL KINGBIRD has been observed since November 1 along Reeder Road on
Sauvie Island. The bird is being seen about a mile south of Coon Point near
Vetch's Dairy, and at a duck pond on the west side of the road there. The
bird is seen on the powerlines and on roadside vegetation.

The COMMON GRACKLE continues to be seen at the Toketee Ranger Station in
the Cascades east of Roseburg. It has been in that area since July 31.

Up to four SNOWY OWLS have been seen in the driftwood along the ocean beach
of the Bayocean Peninsula at Tillamook Bay since November 2. Another SNOWY
OWL was struck and killed by a pickup along I205 near the Portland Airport
November 5. Another has been reported from the Peoria area southeast of
Corvallis.

An OLDSQUAW and 13 ANCIENT MURRELETS were off Yaquina Head October 31. Very
large flocks of BROWN PELICANS were reported during the week as these birds
prepare to head south. At the Nestucca NWR near Pacific City November 5 a
SNOW and a ROSS' GOOSE were seen among the goose flocks there. The SNOW
GOOSE wore a colored neck collar.

An OLDSQUAW was on Meares Lake at Tillamook Bay November 3. Up to three
PEREGRINE FALCONS are in that area creating interesting sightings. The
Nehalem Sewage Ponds have contained large flocks of waterfowl lately,
including both BARROW'S and COMMON GOLDENEYE, a TRUMPETER SWAN, and an
adult BALD EAGLE that sits on the dike watching the action.

TRUMPETER SWANS, SANDHILL CRANES, and other waterfowl are now at Ridgefield
NWR. On November 2 TREE SWALLOWS were reported from there. A NORTHERN
SHRIKE and a SHORT-EARED OWL were on Sauvie Island over the week-end. A
BRANT has been regularly seen among the CACKLING GOOSE flocks on the
Island. A RED-NECKED GREBE and the SOLITARY SANDPIPER were at the Forest
Grove Ponds November 2.

Four ROSY-FINCHES were at South Saddle Mountain, south of Highway 6 near
the crest of the Coast Range November 2. A SNOW BUNTING was on Sugarloaf
Mountain in the Polk County Coast Range October 31. Up to five SNOW
BUNTINGS have been seen on Marys Peak lately, along with WESTERN BLUEBIRDS
and a female MOUNTAIN BLUEBIRD. A conspicuous PYGMY-OWL has been regularly
seen working the trees near the top. Remember, you need a Snow Park Permit
to visit Marys Peak.

A probable IBIS was reported near the Coburg exit off I5 November 6. A
HARRIS' SPARROW is now coming to Barbara Combs feeders in Eugene. If
interested in seeing this bird call Barbara at 541-689-6660.

An OLDSQUAW has been on a duck pond at the Madras Golf Course since October
28. TUNDRA SWANS have been reported from many areas of Central Oregon
during the week. A SURF SCOTER and a very late SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER were
at Fopiano Reservoir in Wheeler County November 3. Another SURF SCOTER was
on Haystack Reservoir in Jefferson County during the week. An adult HERRING
GULL was at Ochoco Reservoir near Prineville November 3.

Thats it for this week
