In answer to Dennis Paulson's query as to whether there are any tweeters in
Vancouver, I can answer that there is at least one 'lurker'.

This morning, there was a Kingfisher looking for breakfast, from the tie
rope to a barge next to Science World. At noon there were at least 3 loons,
(Common, I suspect, in winter plumage), getting their lunch in False Creek.
There was so much diving going on, there may have been another one but only
3 were ever visible all at the same time. Forty nine Canada Geese were
grazing on the lawn in front of Science World all day. They were the really
huge sort. Oh yeah, almost forgot about the Great Blue Heron on the roof of
one of the Lagoon buildings next to Granville Island while I was eating
breakfast.

I haven't seen any Snowy Owls.

Cheers,
