To add to the me-toos:

Lorna and I recently visited our son at the University of Chicago. We
didn't have a lot of time for birding and we were sticking to public
transportation, but we were able to locate information by way of links from
Dan's web pages.

We found out that the campus and surrounding neighborhood has a well
established population of Monk Parakeets, a life bird for both us. Within
minutes of getting off the Metra line we were able to zero in on the loud
parakeet squawks and quickly tick the bird for our list.

I can see Fred Bird's interest in parakeets and parrots. The Monk Parakeets
were a lot of fun. They were perhaps the third or fourth most conspicuous
species on campus, their calls were almost always present, and they were
much more impressive and spectacular than their pictures in the field
guides.
