Prior to '96 there seem to be a migratory passage of ghows in april
northward thru the chehalis r valley. '96 was an exception there were no
owls calling.
in '95 for example one night about 10 i heard a group of 5 ghow calling
between themselves
at some distance from the house. i went out on the deck and started hooting.
there were several responces and one bird moved into the stand of
douglas-fir next to the house. the trees 100' tall with full crowns so i
could never see the bird but knew where it was located . the other owls
would hoot back and moved in closer but never overhead.
the group spent 2 nights in the vicinty and then moved on. this passage of
ghow's had benn going on for 3 years early but not in '96 . i waited and
listened during mid april
but no show.
the return passage never seen to take place at this point in the valley.
