Even the Bellingham Herald had a front page Snowy Owl story
last night, entitled "Food shortage drives snowly owls south"
and quoting a Donald Baepler of UNLV as saying "The majority
of the snowy owls coming here won't survive and very few of
those that do will ever return home, because most arrive in
poor health and fall victim to predators."

I've been looking and haven't yet seen any snowys on Lummi Flats,
but I think it's just a matter of time . . . there were one
or two 3 (or was it 4?) years back when all the Snowys were
at Boundary Bay, as well as a couple on the SW of Lummi
Island that the islanders kept pretty quiet about.
