Hello Tweeters,

This is just a note to let yall know that I am not dead or missing. I have
had a change in lifestyles recently in that I started graduate school at
Evergreen State College in Environmental Studies this fall. I do send as
much time as I use to in front of the computer, but I do not spend as much
time in internet.

Since the quarter began I have found that banding birds is completely
symbiotic with the massive amount of reading that I have to do. I have
been living out of the back of my van during the week, spending my nights
out in the woods on McChord AFB. I get up early and set my nets, make a
quick breakfast, and start my school work. By the time I get antsy and
need to take a break, it is time to check the nets, band a few birds, then
go back to reading. I do this cycle until it is time for class (all of my
classes are at night). I think that if I could have been banding birds in
undergraduate school, instead of chasing girls around like Harpo Marx, my
grades would have been much better.

Living in the prairies, where I am involved in a long term study for The
Nature Conservancy, and where I will work on my thesis project, has
changed my relationship with it. It will be interesting to see how much I
look like an Oregon Grape bush by the time I am done.

I have also banded at two other sites this fall. Below are the totals of
the birds that I have captured so far.

If anyone would like to visit my banding site at McChord, I usually have
friends from Evergreen help out on Wednesdays. I also go out on some
weekends with my wife when we can manage. Send me a message if you are
interested and we can make arrangements about where to meet.

I will, at some point, try to arrange an organized schedule for a WOS
field trip to the site, so look for announcements in upcoming newsletters
for that as well.
