Subject: (Yellow Shafted) Northern Flicker

This (Friday) morning I had a Yellow Shafted Northern Flicker on my suet
feeder in Woodinville. My sixth grader responded to my excitement by
telling me it had been around for several days. Did not notice yellow
underwing coloration, but the head markings were unmistakably different from
the Red Shafted No. Flickers that are common in my yard and at the feeders.
Any comments on frequency of occurence of this variation?
