Hi folks,

As my father-in-law lives up in Seahurst, I get to travel I-5 between =
Oly and the Burien Exit pretty regularly. One of the 'perks' of driving =
this stretch is seeing a pair of Redtailed Hawks at the Midway Landfill =
area. These are usually perched in Red Alder or Doug Fir above the =
freeway, but I have seen them 'pounce' on prey (microtus?) in the short =
grass of the slope between the methane pipes and the interstate.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but coming south today, I saw the =
carcass of a redtail in the center lane of the southbound lane. Didn't =
see any birds perched along the freeway. I'll be keeping an eye out to =
see if the remaining bird re-pairs. Kind of sad to lose an 'old =
friend'....
