Tweeters,

The Protection Island Birding Trip od 11/23 was particularly notable for
the large number of Old Squaws - Long tailed Ducks - Clangula hyemalis
(your choice) spotted in the waters off the island. There were easily 100
of these birds, equally divided between the waters on the south side & the
shallow water on the north, easily the greatest number we've seen since our
10/19/96 trip . Additionally, we saw our first Common Goldeneye of the
fall. Although the temperature was quite cold, the seas were calm & the
birds were numerous.
The complete list:
Common Loon
Red Necked Grebes
Horned Grebes
Double Crested & Pelagic Cormorants
Great Blue Heron
White Winged & Surf Scoters
