needs as wide an audience as possible. Some background: the McGregor Model
Forest Association has a project going which involves gathering inventory
data on as many aspects of its Model Forest land as possible, including
birds. The ultimate goal is to GIS (I love how you can make any noun a verb
in English) all the data such that intelligent, quantitative cause and
effect re. forest practises may be effected viz. if you use this type of
treatment here, you can expect this set of repercussions, etc. May be a
somewhat lofty goal but worth striving for nonetheless. The info follows:

Request for Expressions of Interest

The McGregor Model Forest Association (MMFA) is
establishing an eligibility list of firms/individuals
to conduct a Forest Renewal BC (FRBC) funded inventory
of songbirds in the McGregor Model Forest, 30 km northeast
of Prince George, BC. The successful proponent is
required to follow the Resource Inventory Committee
(RIC) standards for songbird inventories using the variable
radius point count method. The work involves preparing
and conducting a songbird inventory along thirty-three
2.5-3.0 km transects from mid-April to mid-July and
completion of a comprehensive report by mid-September
for each field season. Subject to FRBC funding, the
is anticipated to commence in 1997 and continue in the
1998 and 1999 field seasons.
Interested firms/individuals are encouraged to submit a
letter of intent to Mark Robson, Bird Inventory Coordinator,
McGregor Model Forest Association, P.O. Box 9000,
Prince George, BC V2L 4W2 by 1600 hours PST Dec. 6, 1996.
Interested firms/individuals on the Ministry of Environment,
Lands and Parks (MOELP) eligibility list willl receive a
Request for Proposal (RFP) package in early 1997.

Note that MOELP, MMF, and the Prince George Naturalists Club are the three
signatories to this FRBC proposal. There is a good deal of controversy re.
the RIC "standards" which will be used as the baseline for gathering of the
data. Many aspects of the RIC stuff do not apply to P.G. latitudes and may
even be counter-productive to procuring good data. However, there may be
time to modify such standards before they are implemented and efforts are
being made to do so. Please give this note to any who you feel may be
