I have a waterfront cabin on Guemes Island facing NE toward Bellingham and
Samish. We have an 80 foot high bank that creates strong updrafts, and we
have the tallest tree along our stretch. I've been there every Saturday for
about 3 years.
We have a pair or two of bald eagles around most of the year, and the
population has been increasing, of course, into fall. Last Saturday with the
cold and the wind it exploded. Between 7am and 9am there was a fly-by about
every 10 minutes. They were hunting constanting in the morning. Later in the
afternoon, they spent more time meditating in the tree. I'd guess we had 3-4
pairs, and about that many juveniles, but I can't convince them to wear big
id numbers on their backs like marathoners do :-)! How do I identify
individual adults so I can get an idea of whether there are 2 flying in
circles or 200?
