Hi Folks,

Had a chance to run up to Quilcene Bay today. Sunny, cool in the a.m., =
and no wind until about 11:00 a.m., then an 12-knot breeze from the =
north in the p.m.

Again, wasn't specifically birding, but think that someone in a boat in =
this beautiful arm of Hood Canal would have a lot of fun for a few hours =
on a high tide. I saw:

Pigeon Guillemot - 8, all down near Point Whitney
Horned Grebe - 7 scattered along the shorelines (these had me going, as =
I had to look at a couple that had the darker throats that I'd expect on =
Eared Grebes - I think these birds were just coming out of the summer =
plumage, so were kind of dusky.
Turkey Vulture - 1 flying S over the Bolton Peninsula
Great Blue Heron - 5+
Kingfisher - 3
Glaucous-winged Gull - 80 (about 80% juveniles, mostly young of the =
year)
Ring-billed Gull - 6
Bonaparte's Gull - 2 out in the middle between Pt Whitney and =
Fisherman's Point
Surf Scoter - 115
White-winged Scoter - 25
Black Scoter - 1 male
Mallard - 65
Pintail - 50
American Wigeon - 225
Canada Goose - 22
Domestic Goose - 4, big white ugly ones
Gadwall - 1 hen
Green-winged Teal - 1
Crow - 5
Bald Eagle - 1 Second-year bird
Winter Wren - a couple singing from the hemlock/salal
Robin - 3 near boat haven
White-crowned Sparrow - 14 in brush near boat haven
