The first ruby-crowned kinglet of the season was on campus about five
minutes ago in the trees just south of the totem pole. Gull activity is
variable--I usually don't get here early enough for a good count as I'm
elsewhere 'til 10. A glaucous-winged was hanging out near my classwoom
at 1030 this morning.
After Birder's Night on Tuesday, while walking the dog, I had at
least two sparrow and two warbler chips in my neighborhood (St Johns). This
morning was probably the most active of the fall yet, with several juncos
feeding on a neighbor's dirt driveway and calls which sounded like fox
sparrows in a couple of places. Waterfowl are still not evident every
morning. Good to see all there on Tuesday. RK
