DATELINE USK: A friend who is hibernating from urban life along the Pend
Oreille River, about 10 miles upstream from Usk, submitted two interesting
reports:

1. A Blue Jay has been frequenting her yard regularly since Sept. 25th.

2. Today (10/3), she watched from 60-70 feet away as a flicker attacked a
robin (one of several robins in a berry bush), knocking it from a bush to the
ground. The flicker kept the robin pinned to ground (standing on it) for
over five minutes and then flew off with the robin in its claws. The robin
didnt move, being either stunned or dead after the initial hit. My friend,
who knows her birds, described the assault as just like watching an
accipiter.

This sort of rings a bell. Has anyone in Tweeterland had comparable
observations?
