Hello, this is Portland Audubon Society's Rare Bird Report. This recording
was made Thursday October 10. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls
at 233-3976.

Among the swarm of birds the October 5 offshore boat trip found at Heceta
Bank, 30 miles off the central Oregon coast, were 8 SKUAS, three or four
FLESH-FOOTED SHEARWATERS, and 290 BULLER'S SHEARWATERS. A white albatross
found on the bank that day was initially identified as a LAYSAN, but it is
now thought to be a possible WHITE-CAPPED ALBATROSS.

Shorebirds and KITTIWAKES are still moving through the state with DUNLIN
now in good numbers. Bandon continues to attract good numbers of
shorebirds. On October 6, a MERLIN, a WHITE-TAILED KITE, and a
RED-SHOULDERED HAWK were about the flats there. A PALM WARBLER was at Eel
Creek Dunes, south of Reedsport October 2. About 8,000 SURF and
WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS were on the ocean on the north side of the Sea Lion
Caves October 5.

Both PACIFIC and AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVERS and LAPLAND LONGSPURS continue to
be seen at the South Jetty of the Columbia River. A PARASITIC JAEGER was
off the jetty and a PALM WARBLER was near the shorebird flats October 6.
Another PALM WARBLER was near Astoria that day. ROUGH-LEGGED HAWKS are now
entering the state, two were in the jetty area last week-end.

On October 4 a PACIFIC LOON was on one of the Green Lakes at 6505' in the
Three Sisters Wilderness Area of the Cascades. Migrant CLARK'S NUTCRACKERS
continue to be reported.

A late BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAK was in Lakeview October 8. A late SWAINSON'S
HAWK was in Moro in Sherman County October 7, the same day a late WESTERN
KINGBIRD was near the Painted Hills National Monument near Mitchell. An
early HARRIS' SPARROW was near the Monument October 6. A BOREAL OWL was
seen October 5 near the state line north of Tollgate in northeastern
Oregon. It did not call or respond to tapes.

Thats it for this week.
