For Your Information

Natural History magazine for October 1996 has a special report
devoted to raptors called *Hawks Aloft* which includes
a double truck Raptor Road Map in the center of the mag
that shows the various routes taken by migrating raptors.

*each fall, birds of prey take flight ansd soar across continents
migrating thousands of miles to winter feeding grounds.
Watching thme has become as much of a rite as the flights
themselves.* Paul Kerlinger

RIVER OF RAPTORS

As hawks make their way over a narrow stretch of coastal
plain in Veracruz, Mexico, they are closely watched by
scientists, birdwatchers and a fledgling organization of native
conservationists. -- Jessica Maxwell

and a review of a CD Rom program called Cyber-Hawk

pretty neat photo of a Golden Eagle on the cover makes it
hard to miss on the shelf...

Also--

Audubon magazine for October 1996 has a scary article
about the pesticide poisoning of Swainson's hawks in their
Argentine wintering grounds...we can only hope this will
generate some pressure toward the US to pressure the
Argentinians to quit using that stuff..
many of the dead birds are in adult plumage, and there's
a real need for concern here as the numbers are decreasing
at an alarming rate...

Enjoy!
