This is the Lower Columbia Basin Audubon Society Bird Alert for October 11,
1996. For any questions regarding LCBAS call Mike Lilga at 946-8966.

To bypass the announcement, push the star button on your phone and leave a
message after the tone.

On October 3, it was reported that Mike and MerryLynn Denny had an ANNA'S
HUMMINGBIRD at their College Place feeder as of September 28. To determine
if the bird is still present, call Mike at 509-529-0080.

On October 4, the first DUNLIN appeared on the Yakima Delta and I (Bob
Woodley) found an immature GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROW at my feeder. While on
October 7 a rather late OSPREY visited the Yakima Delta.

In the early morning of October 6, Bill LaFramboise observed a BARN OWL on a
sign at the intersection of Columbia Drive and Kennedy Road in Richland.

On October 8, Nancy LaFramboise reported 10 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS, 2 DUNLIN
and over 100 LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS on the Yakima Delta. While at the ponds
just south of the Willowbrook housing development on Leslie Road, she found
2 LINCOLN'S SPARROWS, 2 VIRGINIA RAILS and noted 7 SANDHILL CRANES flying over.

Also on October 8, Ruth Fischer found a GREAT EGRET on the north shore of
the Yakima River just east of the I-182 bridge. It was probably this same
bird that was on the Yakima Delta on October 9.

Richard Hendrick (sp?) of Bridgeport (686-4300) reported a SURF SCOTER above
the dam at the south end of town on October 8.

Finally on October 9, Nancy LaFramboise found 3 AMERICAN PIPITS among good
numbers of shorebirds, particularly dowitchers, on the Yakima Delta. Also
on the delta that day I (Bob W) found a RED-NECKED GREBE, 7 HORNED GREBE and
4 WESTERN GREBES along with 6 newly arrived BUFFLEHEAD.

To report your own sightings, please give your name, phone number and
sightings after the tone. Thank you.

Late news flash: 4 EVENING GROSBEAKS just flew in to my (Woodley's) feeder.
