I just received my latest copy of the RSPB (Royal Society for Protection of
Birds) magazine from England. The RSPB, with Birdlife International, are
developing two or three categories of endangered species with different
types of criteria established to determine eligibility for adding to the list.

In the second, lesser threatened category one of the criteria is that a
species is showing a significant decline in numbers. This is measured as a
percentage decrease and species are included regardless of total numbers.
Quess what's in the list; the good old European Starling!

I wish I could be more precise with the details but I'm working away from
home and don't have the original article with me. Perhaps someone else has a
copy?
