Kelly,

Please do give this person who sees Peregrines hunting squirrels in West
Seattle and Magnolia my phone number.
Not only would I love to supply him with some additional facts, I would also
love the opportunity to see this hunting take place.
To tell you the truth, I doubt it's a Peregrine, but then I've experienced the
concept of "preconceived notions" (as recently mentioned in another thread on
tweeters) a couple of times.
I've been watching Peregrines in both neighborhoods mentioned for a couple of
years now and so far avian prey (many pigeons, no starlings, but I've seen
Merlins take them) appears to be their favorite.
The only squirrel I've seen taken by a raptor out of someone's front yard was
a Bald Eagle picking up a dead (several days old), frozen squirrel, a few
winters ago. The squirrel in question was picked up out of a front yard at the
north end of Green lake (where else would I have seen this, right). I actually
have pictures of the eagle carrying it's "trophy" off. It was during a cold
snap when the lake was frozen over.

Anyway, Kelly, if your anonymous caller contacts you again, please do give him
my number.
