Yesterday (Wed., 10/16), we did not find the reported Cattle
Egrets west of the Samish R. on the Bayview-Edison Rd., but did
see one Cattle Egret with four horses (new and hitherto unreported
sub-species? :-) ) at the junction of Highway 11 and Field Rd. on
the way.

Property at West 90 (90 degree bend on Samish Island Rd. about
one mile west of intersection with Bayview Edison Rd. (DeLorme p.109,
D5) is now open to the public. We didn't walk out to the dike, but I
talked with a local duck hunter who told me that he heard that the Dept.
of Game will probably improve the parking on the property (it's sort of
a mud hole), and that local Audubon groups are working on developing a
better trail out to the dike. At this time you can easily walk out
there (wet!), along the edge of the grain field, and then you have good
access to the water and the mud flats, all the way south to the end of the
property. Now all we need is a week-end espresso/latte stand. :-)

A Perigrine Falcon was seen in the field across the road
to the north.

A flock of eighteen Greater White-fronted Geese were seen
with a flock of about 36 Canada Geese along the Bayview Edison Rd.
where it crosses the channel at the south end of the Padilla Bay dike
trail. This is about a half mile from intersection with Highway 20.
