This is the Lower Columbia Basin Audubon Society Bird Alert for October 20,

(Due to the time limit of this recording,) For this alert I will give the
latest sightings first to give you a better chance of seeing the reported birds.

Today, October 20, Phil Bartley found 2 WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS and a
HARRIS' SPARROW at the Audubon Nature Trail in Columbia Park (in Kennewick)
and a PEREGRINE on the island off the park.

Also today, John Fields, who is camped at Madame Dorian Park at the Walla
Walla River mouth, had a COMMON GRACKLE at his feeder.

On October 19, the ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRD was still visiting Mike Denny's feeder
in College Place and Mike saw a BLUE JAY fly over the highway in Walla Walla.

Also on the 19th, Dennis Rockwell found a GREAT EGRET on the pond west of
Highway 12 at milepost 300. (McNary NWR), a GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE at
the lagoon in Two Rivers Park in Finley and a very late FORSTER'S TERN over
the lagoon there.

Phil Bartley reported a SURF SCOTER on the Columbia River behind the Shilo
Inn and a RED-NECKED GREBE and PEREGRINE at Columbia Point in Richland.

Also on the 18th, Bill and Nancy LaFramboise had a WHITE-THROATED SPARROW at
their feeder and I (Bob Woodley) found an AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER at the
Yakima Delta.

On October 17, Randy Hill noted that a collared TRUMPETER SWAN returned to
the Columbia National Wildlife Refuge, a RED-THROATED LOON was on Royal
Lake, and a NORTHERN SHRIKE was near the lake.

The previous day, October 16, on the Hanford Reach, Randy Hill found a
THAYER'S GULL among several gull species, 2 PACIFIC LOONS off the White
Bluffs boat ramp, and a PRAIRIE FALCON nearby.

Also on October 16, Mary Lilga saw an OSPREY over the Yakima River in
Grandview and I (Bob Woodley) found an immature SNOW GOOSE at the Yakima Delta.

Other birds of note include an immature HARRIS' SPARROW at Dennis Rockwell's
feeder on October 15.

A BLUE JAY at John Fields feeder at Madame Dorian Park from October 12 to at
least the 15th.

Another BLUE JAY along Hood Avenue in Richland during the same period. Call
Steve Weiss at 375-7458 for details.

And an AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER at the north end of Scootney Reservoir found
by Dennis Rockwell on October 13.
