I have found this species to always be more common than I think it is.
When I was working with a bander in Nebraska, I was always surprised at
the number we would catch compared to more conspicuous species. Two
springs ago, on the NAMC for Gilliam County, I had 15 in a day, which I
found surprising.
I also recall the first time I heard one singing on Mount Hood:
