Hi Tweets,
Damnedest seasickness cure I ever heard of: according to the story I heard
from one involved, a group of friends is taking a BC Ferry down the coast
from Prince Rupert and hits some rough stuff in Hecate Strait. Everyone
starts getting acutely seasick. "Let's take our minds off our stomachs by
having a singalong" says one of them. They all start singing their heads
off. Seasickness vanishes. Other passengers join in, their seasickness
vanishes. Everybody bawls out every song their mothers taught them until
they reach smoother waters, no seasickness. Boy, I hope this is true.
I'd guess the combination of diversion of attention, song-inspired
endorphins, song-inspired stimulation of auditory nerves, and increased
oxygen uptake would go some way to mitigating motion-disorientation.
So next time you're queasy, just light up a couple of choruses of the Beach
Boys' 'I Wish They All Could Be California Gulls', nyurk, nyurk.
