I have the "National Audubon Society Interactive CD-ROM Guide to North
American Birds" and I find it quite handy. It has pictures and text from
Audubon's Field Guide and Master field guide, pretty search tools - you
can search for that "unknown" bird by any combination of season,
location, habitat, color, shape and size. You can search for birds by
common or scientific name by family or species. It has bird calls and
area maps, too. And a built in life list.

The Seattle Public Library has three CD-Roms on birds available for
checkout, Axia's Know Your Owls, and Know Your Birds of Prey, Vultures to
Falcons and Thayer's Birds of North America. Other libraries might have
them too.

I like Audubon's better than Thayer's, but I know nothing about
Peterson's, except that it's $20 more than Audubon. All three are at the
SAS gift shop, btw. I hope this helps.
