This is the Lower Columbia Basin Audubon Society Bird Alert for October 29,

On October 20, John Fields, who is camped at Madame Dorian Park at the Walla
Walla river mouth, discovered a COMMON GRACKLE at his feeder. Unfortunately
the bird has not reappeared following the initial sighting.
Also on October 20, Phil Bartley found 2 WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS and a
HARRIS' SPARROW at the Audubon Nature Trail in Columbia Park in Kennewick.
He also noted a PEREGRINE falcon on the upper end of the island off the park.

On the same date, Dennis Rockwell found 2 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS plus normal
numbers of Least and Pectoral Sandpipers, Dunlin, and Long-billed Dowitchers
on the Yakima Delta and saw a PEREGRINE falcon in Two Rivers Park in Finley.

On October 21, an AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER joined the shorebirds on the Yakima
Delta, while on subsequent days, up to and including October 27, 2 AMERICAN
GOLDEN-PLOVERS were present. A PEREGRINE was also present on most days.

Other notable birds on the Yakima Delta include a very late WILSON'S
PHALAROPE on October 23 (Bob Woodley), an adult THAYER'S GULL on October 24
(Bob Woodley and Nancy LaFramboise), 28 BONAPARTE'S GULLS and several
AMERICAN PIPITS on October 25 (Nancy LaFramboise), 25 TUNDRA SWAN and 30
BONAPARTE'S GULLS, October 26 (Dennis Rockwell), and a single NORTHERN
SHRIKE, October 27, (Bob Woodley).

Away from the Yakima Delta, Nancy LaFramboise and Ruth Fischer found a BROWN
CREEPER and a number of GOLDEN-0CROWNED KINGLETS in Groves Park, Richland,
October 21.

Phil Bartley observed 2 PACIFIC LOONS off Columbia Park on October 22.

Mike and MerryLynn Denny had a late CALLIOPE HUMMINGBIRD at their College
Place feeder along with the previously reported ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRD on
October 25. A single STELLER'S JAY visited their yard that same day.

Today Scott Peter (?) reported a HERMIT THRUSH in his Richland yard.

While back on the Yakima Delta, the PEREGRINE, 4 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS and
other shorebirds were present and just west of the Bateman Island causeway a
RED-BREASTED MERGANSER joined assorted grebes and Hooded Mergansers. The
Red-breasted Merganser was discovered by Nancy LaFramboise and Ruth Fischer
the previous day.
