Hello, this is Portland Audubon Society's Rare Bird Report. This recording
was made Thursday October 31. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls
at 233-3976. On October 26 a female TUFTED DUCK was among a large flock of
waterfowl on Smith Lake in North Portland. It has not as yet been
relocated.

The EMPEROR GOOSE continues to be seen at the Lewis and Clark State Park on
the Sandy River just south of I84. The bird is usually seen across the
river from the park's boat ramp.

The three CATTLE EGRETS are still being seen along Wireless Road south of
Astoria.

BLACK-LEGGED KITTIWAKES and BONAPARTE'S GULLS are reported in large numbers
along the coast, and PACIFIC LOONS continue to pour southward. On October
26 a TUFTED PUFFIN was seen off the South Jetty of the Columbia River.

MOUNTAIN CHICKADEES continue to be reported from west side lowlands. During
the week individuals were reported at feeders in Jacksonville, Sutherlin,
West Linn, and in Portland's West Hills.

On October 22 a PACIFIC LOON was on the Columbia River at Hayden Island in
North Portland. WESTERN GULLS and a COMMON LOON were at Kelley Point Park
in North Portland October 26. On the nearby sand flats were 50 HORNED
LARKS.

Waterfowl arrived in large numbers during the week, including the first
main movement of TUNDRA SWANS. On October 29 a TRUMPETER SWAN was at the
Forest Grove Ponds, along with a late BARN SWALLOW.

ON OCTOBER 27 a GREATER SCAUP, a SURF SCOTER, a WHITE-WINGED SCOTER, and a
SOLITARY SANDPIPER were at the Forest Grove Ponds. That day another
SOLITARY SANDPIPER was at Creekside Marsh in Beaverton. On October 25 three
SURF SCOTERS and an EARED GREBE were on the Molalla Sewage Ponds.

On October 25 eight very late CLIFF SWALLOWS were at Baskett Slough NWR
near Salem. A female HARLEQUIN DUCK and a WESTERN GULL were at Minto-Brown
Park in Salem October 26. On October 24 three GREATER SCAUP and a SURF
SCOTER were at the Monmouth Sewage Ponds.

Three SURF SCOTERS and 17 EARED GREBES have been at the Philomath Sewage
Ponds. A late TURKEY VULTURE was over the Philomath Ponds October 26 and a
CLARK'S NUTCRACKER was on Marys Peak that day. Five SNOW BUNTINGS and a
MOUNTAIN BLUEBIRD were on Marys Peak October 30.

A SWAMP SPARROW was noted among a large sparrow flock southeast of
Corvallis October 27. A BLACK PHOEBE was at the Creswell Sewage Ponds
October 27, but it apparently did not remain. A BLUE JAY was reported
October 25 in west Eugene, but it could not be relocated.

Waterbirds are now gathering at the John Day Dam on the Columbia River.
RED-NECKED and CLARK'S GREBES have been noted among the large WESTERN GREBE
flock, and two COMMON TERNS were found among the BONAPARTE'S GULL flock at
the face of the dam.
