I think this is curious as well. It's unlikely that they are being
limited by food at my end because my neighbor provides a 'bottomless pit'
of suflower seeds for them. It was interesting to see that Fred's wife
saw some last night at seven, because at that same time I heard some at my
neighbor's house at her feeders. So they're definitely splitting up, but
not because of lack of sunflower seeds. Are there any fruit trees which
are just now bearing fruit, and are more common in Maple Leaf than down
here? They like to forage on the madrona in my back yard, but totally
ignore the fig trees with nice ripe figs available for the taking. Or
maybe as Fred suggested this is just what they do in the Fall, out of
habit more than necessity?
