I finally just let it go. It "kind of" flies around. It's just out of the
nest. I feel so sorry for it. I may have found the reason. Boys in our
neighborhood have "discovered" the area next door to us that has been cleared
for development (used to have lots of cottonwoods and understory for quail,
pheasants, etc.) and are shooting the birds with bb guns!!! My neighbor said
they were shooting at the birds on our fence yesterday afternoon until he
shouted at them to stop. And this afternoon, I was out in the back yard and
a young man (I'd say at least 13 years old) was walking home from school with
a backpack on shooting a bb rifle as he was walking through the brush and
into the field!!! I shouted at him to stop, that it is illegal to shoot
within the city limits, and that I would call the police if he didn't stop
right away. He said he was just going home and kept looking back at me over
his shoulder. My husband is sure we'll have our tires slashed tonight!
Sometimes I just despair!!!!
