A friend and I were birding Spencer Island about three weeks ago on a
Saturday evening (that's Saturday night entertainment for bird geekers)
and watched a Peregrine devour some less fortunate bird on a snag just
north of the bridge to the island. In the waning light, we first thought
it was an osprey eating a fish, but after looking through a scope from
several different angles, we concluded it was a Peregrine ripping out
feathers. By the way, we had the whole island to ourselves--Saturday at
dusk is a good time to be there if you don't like crowds!
