Present at the Ballard locks this morning were seven Bonaparte's in
their winter plumage, the first time I've seen them without hoods this
year. They tend to sit on the cable at the west side of the spillway.
Also present in this area were a pair of Common Terns. It's great fun to
watch them fish from so close up. The resident Kingfishers were also
noisily present, it seems like there were more than the usual two, I
wonder if they raised a family in a nearby burrow? The usual large
numbers of Canada Geese and gulls were present, mostly Glaucous-winged
with a California or two. The person I was with doesn't think that
spending an hour or two counting gulls is much fun, so I didn't get a
better count, sorry.
