Katie --

I also enjoyed your note re RB Nuthatch -- they have
a great voice, and I always enjoy hearing them.
I used to live in Seattle, and heard these birds
fairly often -- and while not taking them totally
for granted, I didn't realize what it would be
without them around as one of the 'common' birds.
The area I live in now, Pacific co., is quite a
bit wetter than Seattle (average 110 to 120 inches/yr),
so now, RB Nuthatch, at least in my yard and home area,
is a once- or twice-per-year phenomenon. It is such
a big deal that we call each other to the door or
window, my wife and I, when we happen to hear one,
because we know it is likely to be months beforee
we hear another one.

Thanks for the note, I know what you mean.
