This is Kas Dumroese with the northern Idaho / eastern Washington /
northeastern Oregon bird hotline.

At Mann Lake near Lewiston, Idaho, on August 30, the Svingen's, the
Denny's and myself observed 2 STILT SANDPIPERS, 4 AMERICAN
PIPITS and a about 200 VAUX'S SWIFTS, plus the usual WESTERN,
SEMIPALMATED, and BAIRD'S SANDPIPERS, a PECTORAL SANDPIPER,
both species of yellowlegs and several RED-NECKED PHALAROPES.
The next day Carole Vande Voorde, Merlene Koliner and Paul Sullivan
added 4 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS to the tally. To get to Mann Lake,
take US 12 west into Lewiston, cross the Clearwater Bridge and
immediately turn left toward East Lewiston. Follow Main Street to the
blinking yellow light and turn right onto Lindsay Creek Road. Stay right
at the Y and follow Lindsay Creek until it dead ends at Grelle. Turn left
onto Grelle, and just after Grelle makes a 20 mph right turn, turn left
toward the lake. Head straight about 1.3 miles to the dead end and the

Dennis Rockwell reports 4 SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS along with both
species of yellowlegs, BAIRD'S SANDPIPERS, LONG-BILLED
DOWITCHERS and RED-NECKED PHALAROPES in a pond on McNary
NWR in northwestern Walla Walla County, Washington, on August 31.
The pond was along US 12 at milepost 300. WA DeLorme p. 40, C1.

On August 28 Bob Woodley observed a single MARBLED GODWIT
among other shorebirds at the Yakima River delta in Yakima,
Washington. Earlier this week 2 GREAT EGRETS and 2 GREATER
WHITE-FRONTED GEESE were in attendance. WA DeLorme p. 50, D4.
Larry and Patty Marsh saw a single NORTHERN PYGMY-OWL on August
31 on Spokane's South Hill, actually just a little south of the South Hill
on Big Rock. WA DeLorme p. 89, D6.

John Shipley reports a solitary SOLITARY SANDPIPER from September
5 at the east end of Fernan Lake just east of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. The
bird was in the only marshy area on the left side of Fernan Lake Road.

Mike and MerryLynn Denny counted exactly 542 GREATER WHITE-
FRONTED GEESE just east of Pasco, Washington, today, September 6.
The birds were in Burbank Slough on the east end of Humorist Road in
McNary NWR. Humorist Road joins US 12 a couple miles south of the

Just a little farther south, at the Walla Walla River Delta, the Denny's
saw FRANKLIN'S GULL, FORESTER'S TERNS, CASPIAN TERNS,
COMMON TERNS, and 2 adult GLAUCOUS-WINGED GULLS, along with
38 AMERICAN WHITE PELICANS. The delta is just north of the junction
of US 12 and US 730. WA DeLorme p. 40, D1.
