The volunteers Allie, Elisabeth, and David up at Bonney Butte this year
asked me to post the following:

WITNESS THE FALL MIGRATION OF BIRDS OF PREY!

HawkWatch Inernational - Inc.
Bonney Butte Migration Project

Every year thousands of birds of prey (raptors) journey through the
Pacific Northwest. Little is known about the migration patterns of these
magnificent birds.

HawkWatch International (HWI) is a non-profit organization founded in
1986 for the study and protection of raptors. HWI is now conducting a
counting and banding project at Bonney Butte on the Mt. Hood National
Forest [in the northern Oregon Cascades]. Raptors use this north-south
ridge as a migration route or flyway.

Bonney Butte is part of a network of hawkwatching sites on the flyways
throughout the western United States. Information gathered from these
sites can be linked together to give us a "big picure" of raptor
migration patterns and the health of raptor populations.

COME UP FOR A VISIT!

Visitors are welcome at the Bonney Butte Project. Join us on the
mountain and help search the skies for eagles, hawks, and falcons [and
Broad-winged Hawks!] as they head south for the [boreal] winter! Enjoy
the spectacular view of snow-capped Mt. Hood, bring a picnic, and explore
nearby hiking trails and meadows.

CALL THE BONNEY BUTTE MIGRATION PROJECT NUMBER: (503) 699-6080
for migration updates and directions.
