Do you have goldfinches in spring and summer? Mine stay through the winter
and disappear just as their plumage is turning yellow. Does this happen to
you, or am I the only one? The only answer I've ever heard is that they like
to breed at the edges of open fields, so as the season approaches, they
move off to find nest sites. The nearest field is 3 blocks from my house.
