This is Kas Dumroese with the northern Idaho / eastern Washington /
northeastern Oregon bird hotline.

At Mann Lake near Lewiston, Idaho, this past week, the combination of
a huge drawdown exposing 30-50 feet of new mud in places along with
the cold front brought in lots of shorebirds. Yesterday, Ila Svingen had
a couple of BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS, a WILLET, a single MARBLED
GODWIT, and a few STILT SANDPIPERS, among the usual shorebirds.
A PRAIRIE FALCON was also present.

Late this [Friday] afternoon, the Svingens, Dave Holick and I had 14
shorebird species. The Willet was gone, but the mud was full of
BAIRD'S and WESTERN SANDPIPERS, a couple of LEAST SANDPIPERS,
a few SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS, a single SANDERLING, the
MARBLED GODWIT, 2 LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS, an amazing 53
PECTORAL SANDPIPERS, both species of yellowlegs, and COMMON
SNIPE. Also there this [Friday] afternoon were 2 COMMON TERNS. A few
AMERICAN PIPIT were still present.

On Saturday, Dan Svingen reported a American Golden Plover from the
Lake.

To get to Mann Lake, take US 12 west into Lewiston, cross the
Clearwater Bridge and immediately turn left toward East Lewiston.
Follow Main Street to the blinking yellow light and turn right onto
Lindsay Creek Road. Stay right at the Y and follow Lindsay Creek until
it dead ends at Grelle. Turn left onto Grelle, and just after Grelle
makes a 20 mph right turn, turn left toward the lake. Head straight about
1.3 miles to the dead end and the parking area. Idaho DeLorme p. 54, A1.

John Shipley reports a single SANDERLING on the Sandpoint, Idaho, city
beach on September 7. Today on the beach was a first winter
FRANKLIN'S GULL, according to John. When entering Sandpoint from
the south on US 95, turn right onto Bridge Street in downtown
Sandpoint to reach the beach.
