A Scrub Jay was hanging out in a maple tree above the deck of our house in
Medina this afternoon around 2:30. It looked as if it was checking out
the place where we regularly put peanuts each morning for the Steller's
Jays (and--yes--to placate the squirrels). But there was no food there at
the time, and no Steller's Jays. They had cleaned the peanuts out
several hours before.

Maybe the Scrub Jay has been stopping by unnoticed for a while already.
It seemed to know what it was doing. Anyway, we'll keep an eye out. Any
bets on how much longer it will be before they're regular residents
around Seattle?
