Care is required when checking out flickers. Especially in winter. Many
of the flickers seen with yellow shafts in the winter are hybrids. The
shafts are indeed yellow, but facial characters may appear to be
red-shafted or both. Hybrids do seem to come in during winter. I believe
I've seen them every winter on the Samish Flats, usually more than one
individual.

Off to Thunder Mt. (we're on our way Mary!).
