It's not in Washington (I live 21 blocks north of Washington, in Abbotsford,
north-east of Bellingham) but I saw last weekend, and again this morning, in
my backyard an otherwise standard (brown cap, grey face and chin, red
moustachial stripes, red under-tail and wing linings) male red-shafted
Northern flicker, with the red nape crescent indicative (I assume) of some
hybridization with yellow-shafted. It was investigating the (still empty)
suet feeder on the cherry tree. The other day it was accompanied by a male
and a female red-shafted with no marks of hybridization. All three were
feeding on the ground. The latter two had a kind of unkempt, dishevelled
look about them, which made me wonder if they were immatures.

Incidentally, yesterday my wife saw a Pileated on the power pole out the
back, which was a nice addition to our yard list.
