Hal Opperman asked how long it would be before Scrub Jays
became a regular Seattle area resident; I'd guess it won't be long
at all. A friend of mine has had a Scrub Jay at her place in West
Seattle for going on a year now. I think it was last November when
she first saw it. Like Hal's bird it was attracted to peanuts put
out for Steller's Jays and acorns gathered at a local park and
slingshotted at the squirrels (hows that for a biased feeding pro-
gram). There have been other sightings in the last year in Kitsap
County, due west, in Tukwila south of Seattle and they've even
nested in Enumclaw within the last couple of years.
