If I remember my Seattle history correctly, Schmitz Park was donated
to the city by the Schmitz family some time ago. There used to ba a
plaque at Schmitz Park Elementary on the early history of the area, but I
haven't been there in a long time. Schmitz Park is the ( or one of the)
last stands of virgin timber in the city of Seattle and is supposed to be
home to Douglas Squirrels as well. It's a good place to go birding I
hear, I'll have to go back soon.
