I got a call last week from Ann Potter, who reported second-hand that
another observer had just watched swifts descend into a chimney at a school
not far from the springtime spectacle. I think the spot described was at
24th and Washington, which is right beside I-5 (although you can't get
theah from heah). I've often seen swifts at that area, which is toward the
south end of the South Capitol neighborhood. Wander a few blocks north for
other possible roosts.
