There is an international petition afoot to save the childhood
suroundings of J.J. Audubon, I thought this might be interesting to some
of us tweets

THE FRENCH AUDUBON'S MEMORY UNPROTECTED
THE CHILDHOOD SURROUNDINGS OF J. J. AUDUBON
PETITION INTERNATIONALE
THE
CHILDHOOD SURROUNDINGS OF J. J. AUDUBON
Our society is composed of the residents of a village, in the suburbs of
Nantes, in France, on the Loire river estuary. In this village called Le
Port Launay de Coukron, JOHN JAMES AUDUBON spent his early years. In the
near by marshes, he discovered how enjoyable it was to watch birds. It
was there, that he drew his first sketches, that he was initiated to the
naturalist approach by his master Docteur d'Orbigny
JOHN JAMES AUDUBON'S writings about the time he spent at the Gerbetihre,
the family's mansion at Port Launay ,brim over with deep feelings, he
said that those days were the happiest days of his life, basking in the
hearty love of his adoptive mother . The marshes , the very area of the
Gerbetihre itself and all the waterbirds which still dwell there, are
threatened by an industrial project, which may erase for ever the memory
of the place . (and wildlife)

LET YOUR EMOTIONS AND INDIGNATION RING, THEY WILL BE OUR BEST WEAPONS TO
FIGHT OFF THE COMING DISASTER.
see http://www.IN-net.fr/PLAIRE/Accueil.html for more info. There is a
petition to sign at the above site. I'm curious if anyone knows about
this effort? Thanks.
