Subject: Don't ducks fly south for the winter?

Dear Tweeters:

I made my first visit to the Skagit Flats today, to the North Fork area.
During the time I was there (about two hours), I saw an unceasing parade
of flocks of ducks flying from south to north just off the shore. There
must have been thousands and thousands of ducks going by.

I don't want to appear dumb, but aren't ducks supposed to fly *south* in
the fall and *north* in the spring? Or are they going to follow the
shoreline out along the strait of Juan de Fuca and then south along the
ocean? Or something else?

Thanks for your enlightenment.
