No gulls were around this morning on the Hudson's Bay Sports Field lawns
after three weeks of several hundred, primarily bolstered by the Mew
migration. The most interesting observations lately have involved crows
chasing an immature Sharp-shinned and harassing a perched Kestrel on
Wednesday and today, respectively. Juncos are paired up and probably
building, and Violet-green Swallows have been more consistently found
over campus in the last couple of days.
On the home front, Ruby-crowned Kinglets have even been singing
in St. Johns the last two mornings. Very slow movements besides these,
who have been around most of the winter. At least four different crows
have been observed carrying nesting material in the last in and around St
Johns and the University of Portland. RK
