Subject: WOS BirdBox Transcription April 1-4, 1997

The Washington BirdBox is a voice mailbox sponsored by the Washington
Ornithological Society. To leave a message about a notable sighting, or
to listen to the most recent messages, call (206) 454-2662 and follow
the prompts. First-time BirdBox users may find it convenient, before
calling, to review the status of Washington's chickadee species.

The Washington Ornithological Society would like to see the BirdBox
become a statewide aid to Birders. One of the reasons for this transcription
is as a service to those outside the local calling area and for people living
outside WA who are interested for whatever reason. We would like to offer an
email transcription service to anyone with a message for the BirdBox. (The
email will be placed as a phone message as well as an errorfree message on
the transcription). Send your message to halop at u.washington.edu with cc to
norton360 at aol.com, & subplot at u.washington.edu. (the cc are in case Hal
Opperman is out of town and the only cc really necessary is to whoever is
transcribing at the time you submit the message). Those active birders and
TWEETERS subscribers living outside the (206) area are requested
to let their non TWEETERS birding friends know this service is available and
to offer to post the message for them.

(My apologies to anyone whose name I have mangled. If anyone can supply
correct spellings of peoples names or place names, I am trying to keep a
list of correct spellings so those corrections would be appreciated).

12:03 PM, April 3 - This is Claudia Wise(sp.) calling, I'm at 938-0099. I
haven't exactly got a rare bird to report. But, for us in West Seattle in
such an urban setting, we have a pair of Varied Thrushs that are flying
continuously into the same spot in the pine tree in our neighbor's yard and
coming down to our yard to feed. So, it's really an exciting thing. I haven't
seen them around here for about 8 years. So, I know they're problably at
Lincoln Park and maybe even Hiawatha but we're happy to see them and wanted
everyone to know. Bye Bye.

ADVANCE NOTICE OF AREA CODE CHANGE from Hal Opperman.
The Washington BirdBox area code will be changing at the end of the month
(I don't remember the exact date, but whenever the big changeover is taking
place).

The new mumber will be (425) 454-2662.

There will not be any change in toll structures. If it's a free call for
someone now, it will still be free. The only change is that if you are
calling from a phone outside the new 425 area, then you will have to dial
some extra digits (1-425) in front of the number.

The old 206 code will still work during a short transition period.
