The Washington BirdBox is a voice mailbox sponsored by the Washington
Ornithological Society. To leave a message about a notable sighting, or
to listen to the most recent messages, call (206) 454-2662 and follow
the prompts. First-time BirdBox users may find it convenient, before
calling, to review the status of Washington's chickadee species.

The Washington Ornithological Society would like to see the BirdBox
become a statewide aid to Birders. One of the reasons for this transcription
is as a service to those outside the local calling area and for people living
outside WA who are interested for whatever reason. We would like to offer an
email transcription service to anyone with a message for the BirdBox. (The
email will be placed as a phone message as well as an errorfree message on

1:25 PM, April 6 - Gary Bletsch, (360) 853-7203. Yesterday, Bob Koontz(sp.)
and I saw an American Tree Sparrow at the Fir Island Game Range. It was in
the third field from the Boat Launch Parking Lot. That's a small enclosed
field. The bird was in a flock of juncos and zonotrichias.

3:35 PM, April 6 - Hi, this is Stephen Mlodinow. Jim Flynn, Steve Pink and I
went off to Whidbey Island today and at Crockett Lake we had a Caspian Tern,
an Osprey and a Common, also known as Eurasian, Green-winged Teal. At the
Keystone Ferry Landing we had a Yellow-billed Loon, mostly in basic plumage.
At Oak Harbor in the old downtown district we had an immature Glaucous Gull
and that's about it. Good luck and good birding.

9:16 PM, April 6 - This is Stephen Mlodinow. Steve Pink, Jim Flynn and I went
to the Samish Flats after leaving Whidbey Island. The undeniable highlight
was the first year Iceland Gull seen around 6:00 PM in a field with
Glaucous-winged and Mew Gulls. This bird was on Field Road, just west of
Thomas Road. It was observed for abouut 5 minutes and then flew off to the
southwest, the direction that most of the other gulls were moving in. Other
highlights included, two Snowy Owls near the bridge over the Samish River
near West Edison and a flock of 21 Tundra Swans. Good luck and good birding.
